Review: Tower Block of Commons – Episode 2: Return of the Dorries

I’ve just watched the second episode of Tower Block Of Commons and I was amazed that MPs would agree to go onto it. It sounds like a good idea in principle but when you’re in a job that gives you lots of excessive money and you put yourself with people struggling to pay their own rent, you’re not going to look good no matter how nice you are. Here are the scores:

Nadine Dorries – 6 – She was polite and came down to earth with a rather large bump. Obviously a classy lady who has a financially comfortable lifestyle, why she appeared on this show I have no idea. She made a rather true statement that council estates have improved – they may not be able to buy food but they all have the latest gadgets, TVs and mobile phones.

Austin Mitchell – 0 - Absolute tit. Came across as a typical ‘tory snob’. Except he’s an MP for the Labour party, you know, the one that represents the working class. He couldn’t every bare to sleep with them and his wife had a rather poisonous, sneering tongue. I would expect this from an old, typical Conservative MP that David Cameron is trying to kick out, but not from Labour. Champagne Socialist.

Tim Loughton – 6 - One of the only MPs on there who seemed to genuinely care. Cynics will say he’s doing it for the cameras and my partner is sure he’s going through a mid-life crisis but I felt he did care about the welfare of the people and their children. When he sat down with the father who had a drink and drug problem, going through his issues and how he was brought up, I was very moved, as were both of them.

Mark Oaten – 5 - Very similar to Tim in that he was friendly and did his best to fit in with the people he was staying with but his own expenses scandal and the ‘holier than thou’ attitude was highly irritating, especially when he was berating the mother for spending £42 a week on cigarettes, when he claimed over £100 for two irons. “I try to buy the cheapest items”. Bollocks and everyone knew that.

It should be renamed ‘See MPs brought down to earth and humiliated on TV’.

  1. Tim Loughton came across the best by far last week, he really looked & sounded like he cared & was game for anything. Shame IDS had to drop out because of his wife’s cancer diagnosis.
Mark Oaten did much better this week, in the last episode he came across as a right tit – but not quite as bad as Austin!

  2. hmmm

Tim Loughton is brilliant. Oaten isn’t bad either.

Disagree on Dorries – car crash. Hiding the money in her bra!

Mitchell is definitely the biggest twat on there.

  3. Paul Freeman

Mitchell needs to retire as he is coming across as someone from the 19th century – his wife is doing him no favours.

Oaten isn’t too bad and I tend to agree on the fags – lets penny pinch on the groceries to make sure we can get the fags and I can kill myself – but I agree that it is so too faced because of his expenses claims

Loughton was okay, but looked so out of place whilst Dorries … dunno car crash is right and I agree with her – our countries poor cannot be really poor if they can get widescreen tvs and mobiles – but how much of that is bought on credit – a problem with our culture ?
