The BBC has been accused of double standards after it once again broadcast offensive comments about the Queen.

On the latest episode of Have I Got News For You, comedy actor and host Miranda Hart described the monarch and her husband as ‘that Greek twit and his Kraut wife’.

The comments, first aired on Friday and repeated on Monday, drew 50 complaints.

What is the world coming to? It was a joke that was mocking the use of racial language used by Prince Phillip and anyone who has half a brain cell would have seen the joke as a harmless jibe at racism, not the opposite! Deary me, some people just love complaining about nothing. If you don’t like mildly offensive humour than go see a Ken Dodd Show. Humour is always going to be marginally offensive to some people but that’s what makes it funny. You can laugh at people whilst they laugh back at you. If you find a particular TV show vulgar then turn it off! Nobody is forcing you to watch it. Where is the British sense of humour? Are we really going to have bland TV where nobody can do or say anything risqué? I hope not, but can see certain people (and press) pushing it to that.

Almost anything can be seen as offensive, depends on your viewpoint. And you’re right, to be funny you need to push at the edges. In the 60s Carry On films were offesive. Barbra Windsor (no relation) had her tits out on a regular basis, and Kenneth Williams was as camp as a row of tents. And I imagine a lot of people got in a state about that.

Humour changes, and new barriers have to be broken. Sometimes people will genuinely be offended, but like you say, you don’t have to buy the ticket or watch the show. There’s an off button.

Of course Phil the Greek is a past master at making racist remarks about people. Only in his case they are probably not jokes.

I’m just surprised that the kind of people who would watch HIGNFY would bother complaining about something so stupid. I thought it was funny!
