Sky News presenter Kay Burley was forced to make an on-air apology yesterday after joking that a Roman Catholic symbol on American vice-president Joe Biden’s forehead looked like a large bruise.
During a discussion with U.S. correspondent, Greg Milam about a fiscal stimulus package being unveiled by Mr Biden, Miss Burley, 49, was more interested in the ‘nasty’ brown mark.
Suggesting that the ‘large bruise’ might be caused by an accident at the Winter Olympics in Canada, she encouraged Mr Milam to find out.
During an advert break she was made aware of her ignorance.
Lol! The Daily “comin’ over ‘ere “Mail preaching about a Sky News presenter’s religious ignorance!? How did this get past the editors? The hypocrisy astounds me.
I must admit that I’ve never heard of placing ash on your forehead, but I guess I’m ignorant. The rest of the Daily Mail article goes on about how Kay Burley is a terrible news presenter who makes lots of mistakes.
John McCain, the sullen, miserable-faced Republican that sat in his chair during a standing ovation of Obama’s State Of The Union Address has continued his criticism of the President – this time in contradiction to his previous policies.
When running for the Presidency, McCain said that he would back a repeal of the ‘Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell’ policy implemented as a compromise by Bill Clinton, if the army chiefs backed it. However, as Obama has announced today that there will be a year long review of the policy (I’d be spitting feathers if I was an American taxpayer, could be done in ten minutes if it was me – repeal it!) where it will then be repealed, McCain came out with this gem:
But in all due respect, right now the military is functioning extremely well in very difficult conditions. We have to have an assessment on recruitment, on retention and all the other aspects of the impact on our military if we change the policy. In my view, and I know that a lot of people don’t agree with that, the policy has been working and I think it’s been working well.
What a tit. Thank goodness they didn’t elect him. I always say that I’m a supporter of gay equality, not gay rights as it can sometimes go too far, but this policy is incredibly discriminatory and Obama should repeal it as soon as possible.
The Tennessean.com has a seemingly unbelievable article about how a woman is facing possible jail time for poking someone:
Shannon D. Jackson, 36, was arrested Friday, Sept. 25 for allegedly violating an order of protection.
According to the affidavit filed in Sumner County General Sessions Court, Jackson is accused of using the “poke” option on Facebook to contact a Hendersonville woman, thus violating the terms of the order of protection, which stipulates “no telephoning, contacting or otherwise communicating with the petitioner.”
Poking is a feature unique to Facebook that conveys no other message but informing a user they have been “poked” by another user.
What on earth has President Obama done to deserve a Nobel Peace Prize? Has he delivered peace to the Middle-East? Has he created a National Health Service in America? Has he been in office for a year? No, no, no! So why give him one?
BBC: The Nobel Committee said he was awarded it for “his extraordinary efforts to strengthen international diplomacy and co-operation between peoples”.
Isn’t that what all Presidents aim to do? He’s not done anything worthy of a Nobel Peace Prize yet and I didn’t know awards were handed out for ‘good intentions’. This award has lost all the credibility it had with this announcement.
Roman Polanski raped a 13 year old girl. He is a child molester and deserves to be punished. It doesn’t matter what decade he did it in, just because he’s evaded capture for 30 years doesn’t nullify the crime.
The victim may well have forgiven him but I bet she wasn’t fine with it at the time. He still committed one of the most atrocious crimes of all – child molesting and therefore should get the punishment he deserves.
All these people jumping up and down about how atrocious his arrest is should ask themselves what they’d do in the same situation. Imagine if someone raped you or a member of your family. Wouldn’t you want them to feel the full force of the law? If they got away and escaped, wouldn’t you want them to come back and be punished for the crime they committed? He should be flown back to the US and sentenced. He’ll probably serve less of his sentence than he would have if he hadn’t escaped to France as he’s an old man but justice must be served. Just because people like what he did in his career, it doesn’t mean he should be excused from raping a child.
The guy speaking actually said ‘Barack Obama’, not ‘Bill Clinton’. It was the interpreter that got it wrong. He should be sacked! The poor guy, he must be devastated.
Obama claimed he would make his term as President extremely ‘open’ and accessible, not keeping any secrets from the public. If that is so, then why has he been so quiet about North Korea? The White House claimed that this was a private visit made by Bill Clinton and had no backing of the US President whatsoever.
Right.
If that is right then why did Bill say that he had the backing and Kim Jong-Il claimed to have received a personal message from Barack? I can’t see Bill going out entirely of his own accord with no backing and without the consent of Team White House.
Obama stop lying, it’s very easy to be caught out. The world want’s an open and honest President, not one that hides all their motives away.
