Be Right Back, Monsieur

I shall be in Paris over St. Valentines’ Day weekend with my other half so blogging will be non-existent until Tuesday. I hope you all have a good one. Remember, if you’re single, St Valentines’ Day is best spent looking for love, not moping about the lack of it.

Robin Hood Tax – Stealing from the worthy

A Conservative at heart (despite being a fox)

It’s not a ‘Robin Hood Tax’. Taxing the bankers to help the ‘poor’ is not what Robin Hood was going after. In fact, the phrase ‘Robin Hood Tax’ is a contradiction in itself as Robin Hood was vehemently opposed to tax and he was stealing from the state to give to the many. His entire purpose was to lower taxes, not drive them up!

James Burdett got it spot on when he said it was ‘Taking from the productive to give to the unproductive’. The last thing we want is to increase benefits or money to those out of work. If it is to be used to help prevent climate change, as I read elsewhere, do we really need another ‘Green Tax’ from this government?

The Robin Hood Tax is just there for socialists and other Trots to latch on to a figure of public hatred and propel their communist views. Very sly, it’s what they do best.

Poland wants Merkel as EU President

Won’t happen as she’s just starting her second term as chancellor but I wonder why the Poles love her so much. I bet if we included her name in a poll here her popularity percentage wouldn’t reach double figures.

Deutsche Presse – Warsaw – Some 28 per cent of Poles would back German Chancellor Angela Merkel for the European Union presidency, said a survey Friday in the daily Rzeczpospolita.

Former British Prime Minister Tony Blair got some 17 per cent of support among the Polish public, according to the telephone survey conducted by GfK Polonia. The newspaper didn’t indicate the size of the survey’s sample.

European Commission head Jose Manuel Barroso came third, with 15 per cent of the votes, while French President Nicolas Sarkozy received 7 per cent.

Under the terms of the Lisbon Treaty, the current six-month rotational system for the presidency of the European Council would be replaced with a permanent EU president.

I’m sure Blair will be happy with coming second (first out of those with a realistic chance) but I wonder if that’s because he’s allowed so many Polish families into Britain to get ‘better lives’, where many found that the grass wasn’t greener.

Is Harry Potter about to become President of Europe?

October 30, 2009 | Filed Under European Politics, General, Humour/Odd | 5 Comments

balkenende
Yes, I know the title isn’t ‘President of Europe’ but we can call it that rather than the long, dull name nobody ever remembers.

It seems that the curse of Jonah Brown (copyright Guido Fawkes) has struck again. Only a matter of days after Brown announced his support for Tony, he has failed to get the backing of EU members. However, I’m sure he’ll get the backing of Merkel and Sarkozy and they’re the only people he needs, as the EU is the democracy of all democracies.

I spoke to my Dutch friend a few years ago and he stated that Balkenende was the butt of all jokes about his Harry Potter-esque appearance. I wonder how long into his Presidency (should he get it) until the media across Europe pick up. May I be the first to chortle.

Also, Tony hasn’t even stated he wants the job yet. Cardiff Blogger is however supporting Tony for the position. Britain is a very odd and temperamental EU member state and who’s better to look after it than one of our own? Go Tony!

Nick Griffin on Question Time: My Review

griffin

Listening to 5 Live, a lot of people feel Nick Griffin was bullied. I don’t think he was but the entire show was based on his views. Have we ever had a Question Time that is entirely dedicated to one member of the panel? In the middle of a national postal strike and an ever-increasingly controversial war in Afghanistan, did we need to spend 55 minutes on Nick Griffin’s racist views and the other 10 on Jan Moir? Hmm. Anyway, my review of the panelists:

Chris Huhne – (7) - He did well, challenged Nick Griffin as did everyone else, very harsh but attempted to needlessly mention Enoch Powell when the question could have been answered without. Enoch Powell was used by him and Straw to attack the Tories – certainly out of the blue and irrelevant in Straw’s case, we’re talking about current views, not those in the 1960’s that are now educated out of the Tory party.

Baroness Warsi – (8) - She did very well, said everything that any sane person would agree with and slammed Nick Griffin who squirmed more than he did with any other panel member. She also faced Nick Griffin when addressing him which is something that other panelists, mainly Greer did not.

Jack Straw – (8) - One of my favourite Labour Party members did his party proud. He proved that his view on the BNP appearing on Question Time was the right one. He successfully slammed and ridiculed Griffin with great effect.

Nick Griffin – (3) - There was the chance he could have been victimised, played as a bullied man with intellectual disabilities and gained public sympathy. Luckily this didn’t happen as he stumbled around, making statements totally out of the blue – no idea what he was going on about when mentioning Jack Straw’s father, quite a degrading low-blow and one that failed to gain any support with. Loved his quote when he said that two men kissing in public “makes [him] feel a bit weird”. The sight of Griffin in public makes me feel a bit weird. In fact, the sight of any BNP member, anywhere makes me feel very weird.

Bonnie Greer – (6) - She was great when she got going but she showed Nick Griffin no respect (most would argue rightly so), however just being rude to someone, turning your back on them and speaking over can cause people to feel sorry for Griffin being bullied. However, that was very minor, she was poor in the first twenty minutes as everyone wondered why she was there but after she got her teeth into the debate and put her own non-political stance on Griffin’s policies she was a breath of fresh air.

David Dimbleby – (6) - Did well, very, very harsh on Griffin but managed to control the debate.

What do you think? Was Griffin bullied too much? Should he have been shown more respect, or do his views prove he should have no respect? Was it right to put him on Question Time? I certainly think so, however, should it have been a ‘Nick Griffin Special’, rather than the weekly one which didn’t include any current affairs or is immigration a topic that’s very important to people?

I hate Unite Against Fascism almost as much as the BNP

...at the ballot box, please.

...at the ballot box, please.

UAF (Unite Against Fascism) are planning to blockade the BBC Television Studios protesting against Nick Griffin appearing on Question Time. What a bunch of hypocritical buffoons.

Nick Griffin, as much as I hate to admit, is a democratically elected politician. He’s been invited onto Question Time (quite rightly I believe) to put across his views and is likely to be challenged by all on his zany political stances. Blockading him from entering and refusing to allow a democratically elected politician is hardly something that I would expect from a group that is ‘against fascism’.

Allow this man to speak, he is elected, censoring will not do any good, allow him to make a fool of himself on national TV. For those of you who say it could do the opposite and attract more people to his party then so be it! He has a legitimate party, if people want to vote for him and are attracted by his views then let them vote! If they start gaining MP’s then it’s likely I’ll move abroad but still, we can’t censor politicians just because they have views we disagree with.

UAF need to shut up and grow up. Yes, protest against his views if you disagree with them but stop destroying our democracy and allow us to have a country where political parties aren’t censored. After all, policing the protest is going to cost tens of thousands of pounds, according to The Times.

Glenys “F*****g” Kinnock goes to Africa

glenyskinnock

She does get around, doesn’t she? Well she’s been removed from her post as Europe Minister and is now in charge of African affairs. Maybe she didn’t like European weather. Or maybe she’s best to deal with African governments, not being elected ‘n’ all.

Newbie President wins the Nobel Peace Prize – a joke, surely?

obama-messiah-jesus

What on earth has President Obama done to deserve a Nobel Peace Prize? Has he delivered peace to the Middle-East? Has he created a National Health Service in America? Has he been in office for a year? No, no, no! So why give him one?

BBC: The Nobel Committee said he was awarded it for “his extraordinary efforts to strengthen international diplomacy and co-operation between peoples”.

Isn’t that what all Presidents aim to do? He’s not done anything worthy of a Nobel Peace Prize yet and I didn’t know awards were handed out for ‘good intentions’. This award has lost all the credibility it had with this announcement.
