Labour may have Vera Duckworth but we have Ken Barlow!Sky News presenter Kay Burley was forced to make an on-air apology yesterday after joking that a Roman Catholic symbol on American vice-president Joe Biden’s forehead looked like a large bruise.
During a discussion with U.S. correspondent, Greg Milam about a fiscal stimulus package being unveiled by Mr Biden, Miss Burley, 49, was more interested in the ‘nasty’ brown mark.
Suggesting that the ‘large bruise’ might be caused by an accident at the Winter Olympics in Canada, she encouraged Mr Milam to find out.
During an advert break she was made aware of her ignorance.
Lol! The Daily “comin’ over ‘ere “Mail preaching about a Sky News presenter’s religious ignorance!? How did this get past the editors? The hypocrisy astounds me.
I must admit that I’ve never heard of placing ash on your forehead, but I guess I’m ignorant. The rest of the Daily Mail article goes on about how Kay Burley is a terrible news presenter who makes lots of mistakes.

Is Eric Pickles a Sontaran?I’ve just watched the second episode of Tower Block Of Commons and I was amazed that MPs would agree to go onto it. It sounds like a good idea in principle but when you’re in a job that gives you lots of excessive money and you put yourself with people struggling to pay their own rent, you’re not going to look good no matter how nice you are. Here are the scores:
Nadine Dorries – 6 – She was polite and came down to earth with a rather large bump. Obviously a classy lady who has a financially comfortable lifestyle, why she appeared on this show I have no idea. She made a rather true statement that council estates have improved – they may not be able to buy food but they all have the latest gadgets, TVs and mobile phones.
Austin Mitchell – 0 - Absolute tit. Came across as a typical ‘tory snob’. Except he’s an MP for the Labour party, you know, the one that represents the working class. He couldn’t every bare to sleep with them and his wife had a rather poisonous, sneering tongue. I would expect this from an old, typical Conservative MP that David Cameron is trying to kick out, but not from Labour. Champagne Socialist.
Tim Loughton – 6 - One of the only MPs on there who seemed to genuinely care. Cynics will say he’s doing it for the cameras and my partner is sure he’s going through a mid-life crisis but I felt he did care about the welfare of the people and their children. When he sat down with the father who had a drink and drug problem, going through his issues and how he was brought up, I was very moved, as were both of them.
Mark Oaten – 5 - Very similar to Tim in that he was friendly and did his best to fit in with the people he was staying with but his own expenses scandal and the ‘holier than thou’ attitude was highly irritating, especially when he was berating the mother for spending £42 a week on cigarettes, when he claimed over £100 for two irons. “I try to buy the cheapest items”. Bollocks and everyone knew that.
It should be renamed ‘See MPs brought down to earth and humiliated on TV’.

Review: Tower Block of Commons – Episode 2: Return of the DorriesCall me cynical, but what odds would you get on Gordon Brown and Alastair Campbell breaking down on national TV? I would have thought there would be a bigger chance of the pope coming out as gay than that happening. The no-nonsense Malcolm Tucker teary-eyed over the Iraq war and Gordon ‘I don’t use my family for electoral gain’ Brown discussing the death of his child born prematurely 8 years ago.
Of course, I imagine Gordon and Sarah are both still horrified about the death of such a small baby, it’s hardly surprising if they are. I just question the time to talk about it when they’ve kept their silence for so many years. Just think if it was the other way around – if Cameron had done it, Labour would be accusing the Tories of everything under the sun to gain votes.
If it wasn’t intended to get more support, then the timing of it is appalling. Looking at comments on various news sites including the Daily Record, the majority of people think this is done to get the sympathy vote and I think it will do more harm than good.
For whatever reason it was done, Gordon is either treating us as idiots or is an idiot for talking about it so close to an election.

Gordon Brown and Alastair Campbell cry on national TV…hmmThe BBC have announced that they are researching into how the LGBT community is represented on their channel. They ask how they could be better and what they do at the moment that’s commendable etc. If you want to enter, click here. It doesn’t take more than ten minutes.
My view is that the BBC are excellent in portraying LGBT members, however there is always room for improvement. When I was younger, Queer As Folk was a fantastic programme that helped me come to terms with my sexuality and what life I was missing whilst I pretended to be straight. If we had more programmes like that, surely it would help others too? QAF is a bit dated now.

Gays & The BBCThe programme which revealed Iris Robinson to be a common criminal is not on the iPlayer. Click here to go to the site and watch it. It’s a must-watch and one of the most exciting/shocking stories to hit UK politics since the expenses scandal…so not long..but you know what I mean. Only available to UK residents unfortunately. You’ll just have to move here if not.

BBC NI Spotlight programme about Iris Robinson available on iPlayerA few months ago when Chris Evans was being interviewed by Jonathan Ross I said to my partner that Chris Evans would do a much better job. It’s not about the guests on his show, it’s about Jonathan Ross. It’s the Jonathan Ross show and the guests were just there to provide joke material for JR. Ross is right to leave, everything he does, every joke he makes, he is slapped down by the disgraced tabloids or there are a few hundred complaints down to ‘that Sachs call’. He’s been limited in what he can do, what jokes he can say and it was about time for him to have a break.
Who to replace him? I hope Chris Evans, some people say Graham Norton or Alan Carr could take over but I can’t see the Ross faithful warming to either of them – he has far too many old ladies as fans who would switch off if a bubbly, camp queen turned up. However, the disgraced tabloids (Daily Mail/Express) would be spitting feathers if Norton and his lewd antics were to gain the prime time spot on Friday night BBC1, so maybe I want him to get it.
Either way, I’m pretty sure I’ll prefer it to Friday Night with Jonathan Ross, but I’ll reserve judgement.
