Gordon Brown learnt to bully from Charlie Whelan

February 22, 2010 | Filed Under Business, General, Media, UK Politics | 1 Comment

So Gordon Brown got his humour from Mandelson, his smile from Campbell and his bullying from Charlie Whelan:

Britain’s biggest union was in turmoil last night after it emerged that three key officials in its political department have been off work for much of the past few months on full pay. They claim that they were bullied by Gordon Brown’s combative former spin doctor, Charlie Whelan.

Ah, it seems there may be a ‘culture of bullying’ inside number 10. After all, Brown did bully Blair for years into stepping down as PM. Then when he took over, Rome fell and as he’s no longer in charge of the country, he has to be in charge of someone, then bullying follows.

I wish both Whelan and Brown would disappear into obscurity.

Update: It seems that Mandelson and Ed Balls have both been helping the ‘bullying culture’ throng inside Downing Street.

Let the bankers help themselves

February 11, 2010 | Filed Under Business, General, Media, UK Politics | 3 Comments

Why not, instead of forcing the bankers to take a 0.00000001% tax hike to help charities and poverty, let them choose to do it or not. Instead of it being such a minuscule amount, why not 5%? I bet there would be quite a few that would take it up.

If I were a banker I wouldn’t dare admit that I was at the moment. The sense of public hatred is overwhelming, but what if you could say that you donate 5% of your earnings after tax to charity? Cynics would claim it isn’t enough but it would certainly benefit many people that could really do with the money. If the body in charge of this published the names of those who agreed to do it and the banks with the most participants, it could provide material to build trust in the banks, something that is badly needed.

Maybe my belief in human nature is too optimistic and nobody would agree to it. Maybe, but worth a try?

He’s Jewish? Not sure about that one. Nor him being hot. Well, in the Commons he’s probably in the top 10% but that’s certainly not something to be proud about. Unsurprisingly the most results are for ‘is an idiot’, however he has 22,000,000 less hits for being an idiot that Gordon.

A few odd ones in there, a few understandable ones. Not sure about him being a freemason though. Or a good Prime Minister but ah well.

Poor bankers

February 10, 2010 | Filed Under Business, General, UK Politics | Leave a Comment

Ok, they messed up but do they really need all this?

  • Hit by 50% tax
  • Bonuses heavily taxed
  • Hated by all

AND you want to add an extra ‘Robin Hood Tax’ on them? The last thing in the world I’d want to be now is a banker.

Robin Hood Tax – Stealing from the worthy

A Conservative at heart (despite being a fox)

It’s not a ‘Robin Hood Tax’. Taxing the bankers to help the ‘poor’ is not what Robin Hood was going after. In fact, the phrase ‘Robin Hood Tax’ is a contradiction in itself as Robin Hood was vehemently opposed to tax and he was stealing from the state to give to the many. His entire purpose was to lower taxes, not drive them up!

James Burdett got it spot on when he said it was ‘Taking from the productive to give to the unproductive’. The last thing we want is to increase benefits or money to those out of work. If it is to be used to help prevent climate change, as I read elsewhere, do we really need another ‘Green Tax’ from this government?

The Robin Hood Tax is just there for socialists and other Trots to latch on to a figure of public hatred and propel their communist views. Very sly, it’s what they do best.

Can Cardiff Sports Village be finished now we’re out of the recession?

January 27, 2010 | Filed Under Business, General, Me, UK Politics, Welsh Politics | 2 Comments

Cardiff Sports Village was put on hold in early 2009 due to the economic downturn and partial progress has been made since. This is despite work going full-steam ahead on completing the St David’s 2 and John Lewis department store. It seems that when big businesses are losing out on customers, the economic downturn doesn’t matter. Now we are officially out of recession, will the Olympic Sports Village be completed? It was expected that many of the athletes hoping to compete in the 2012 Olympics and 2014 Winter Olympics would train at the swimming pool and snow/ice centre but the credit crunch has hit hard and building work was slowed, mostly to a standstill.

If anyone has any news, please let me know. I’m a keen snowboarder and can’t wait to try skiing and ice skating in a brand new centre on my doorstep – the current ‘rink-in-a-tent’ doesn’t really attract me’. The White Water Rafting Centre opens in April 2010 and is part of the Sports Village, so maybe the rest will open then or just after? I do hope so.
