Cameron poster graffiti: We have always been at war with Eurasia

January 31, 2010 | Filed Under General, Humour/Odd, Media, UK Politics | 2 Comments

You’d think that with all the CCTV cameras that this government has, they might have picked up on someone graffiti-ing a poster of Cameron. Maybe they have done but not done anything about it. We have always been at war with Eurasia.

This blog was just a half-arsed job to show the picture at the top. They tickled me.

My favourite photoshops has to be this one:

The government interferes with the John Terry situation. Surprised?

January 31, 2010 | Filed Under English Politics, Entertainment, General, Media, UK Politics | 2 Comments

Why oh why does the government have to butt-in with everything? Gordon Brown rings to see how SuBo is feeling, sends messages to the X Factor finalists and now the British Sports Minister, Gerry Sutcliffe has made his feelings clear about John Terry having an extra-marital affair:

“On the field John Terry is a fantastic player and a good England captain, but to be the captain of England you have got to have wider responsibilities for the country and clearly if these allegations are proven – and at the moment they are only allegations – then it does call into question his role as England captain. I speak to the FA on a regular basis so I will be asking what their viewpoint is and we will see what comes of it in the future.”

What has it to do with him? He’s the British Sports Minister, but if the England captain decides to sleep with a woman other than his wife, should he really interfere?

My opinion is this: I work for a company and was told at the very start that you leave your private life at the door when you walk in. This should be the same for being a footballer. Anything that happens off the pitch should be left at the entrance to the stadium. The ugly truth is that John Terry is better on the pitch than Wayne Bridge is. If Bridge said he couldn’t play on the same team as Terry then Bridge should be dropped. It may not be the correct moral decision but all I and the millions of England football fans care about are the results.

Get Jedward to number 1!

January 31, 2010 | Filed Under Entertainment, General, Humour/Odd, Music | 2 Comments

Jedward (John and Edward of X Factor fame) have released their debut single today on iTunes and other places where you can download songs.

When I want serious music, I’ll listen to Classic FM, when I want some fun, cheesy, humorous music, I’ll listen to Jedward. I love the novelty, let’s hope they get to number one, if only to p**s off the ones who hate them.

Here’s the single performed at the NTAs:

Let Togo join the European Championships!

January 31, 2010 | Filed Under General, International Politics | 1 Comment

Togo banned from the next two African Cup of Nations and fined? I’m going to go out on a limb here and say that this is probably a bad idea.

After reading numerous articles about Togo being banned from the next two African Cup Of Nations (CoN) and fined for ‘political interference’ by their President who requested they come home as part of 3 days mourning, it seems that the head of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), Issa Hayatou really does have something against Togo and ruining a Cup Of Nations that many would argue had already been ruined.

Why announce the fact that Togo are banned and fined, just 24 hours before the final? Surely it could have waited, it’s another 2 years until the next one! I’m convinced that they will be allowed to compete following an appeal but they shouldn’t have to. If they fail in the appeal then I think UEFA should allow them to take part in the European Championships in 2012. That would be a nice kick in the teeth.

John Terry stripped of the England captaincy? Don’t make me laugh

January 30, 2010 | Filed Under General, Media | 1 Comment

Right, so John Terry has had an affair with Wayne Bridge’s girlfriend. Not a very nice thing to do and I’m sure Wayne has his own, new opinion of John. However, the Daily Mail and its readers have taken the moral high ground in claiming he should be stripped of the captaincy as he is a bad role model to children.

Since when was the England captaincy granted on how much of a role model a footballer is? To be captain of England, you should be the person who bonds the team together and creates the best results. If his team mates tell him that they don’t respect him any more then he should stand down or be dropped, if they have confidence in him, then I see no reason why he should be sacked as captain.

If I was refused a promotion in work because I had an affair, I’d take them to court for being so nosey. Jobs and private life are separate and workplaces should respect that.

Modern Art is not to be sniffed at

January 29, 2010 | Filed Under Entertainment, General, Me, Media, Music | 3 Comments

Yesterday I was reading a Twitter conversation in which two people were arguing about modern art. I’ve always been of the view that modern art is nonsense and upon reflection, it’s better than landscape or non-abstract art.
When you read a book, basic details are layed out in the words, the rest of the image, place, people, you read about have to be imagined in your head.
It’s the same with classical music. I like to lay on my bed, close my eyes and imagine what scene the music is describing. It’s incredibly relaxing.
When it comes to art, I don’t want to see a picture of a person, or a drawing of a hill, I like basic colours, objects, shapes to be presented in a way where I can fill in the gaps. I like to make it personal.
The type of people who ridicule modern or abstract art are the type of people who would say a book is better than the film or classical music is better than pop music, so why should modern or abstract art be rubbished? It’s all about using your imagination and making it personal.

Labour – Too Many Tweeters Make Twats

January 27, 2010 | Filed Under General, Media, UK Politics | 3 Comments

It’s true that Labour supporters/MPs/Activists vastly outnumber their Tory equivalents on Twitter but the tone and content of their tweets is nothing short of aggressive bullying. Maybe that’s going too far, but in a few cases it’s not.

The majority of Labour tweeters tend to be slamming David Cameron’s policies or appearance, attacking Tories left, right and centre or stating how they’re not fit to form a government. Apart from the odd ‘I love Harriet Harman and Polly Toynbee’ tweet, I ask you to find a tweet from BevaniteEllie that is applauding Labour policies or commenting on great members of their political party, without attacking the Tories.

I picked on BevaniteEllie as she is one of the most extreme; I have nothing against her and she is entitled to her opinion but I’m a fan of positive politics. People aren’t interested in politics when everyone’s squabbling around. You choose to vote for someone because of their policy, then someone from another party shouts it down, this goes on and on and nobody knows what to believe, they think nothing will work and they don’t bother voting.

Photoshopping a picture of David Cameron hundreds of times with childish, humourless slogans next to it will only impress people of the same political ilk, other people just think ‘childish twats’.

That’s one of the reasons that holding the Twitter monopoly has done Labour more harm than good. Because the majority of people on there support Labour, petty bitching about the Tories earns you a lot of respect from fellow Labour tweeters.

However, Labour have had some positive twitterings. The #WeLoveTheNHS and #ChangeWeSee trends are certainly positive, but when the post is ‘Tories will kill off sick people #welovethenhs’ or ‘Cameron’s face is smooth as a baby’s bottom #ChangeWeSee’, it doesn’t quite work.

Be positive, people! Politics is much more interesting when you can have a rational debate. Childishness loses votes.

Can Cardiff Sports Village be finished now we’re out of the recession?

January 27, 2010 | Filed Under Business, General, Me, UK Politics, Welsh Politics | 2 Comments

Cardiff Sports Village was put on hold in early 2009 due to the economic downturn and partial progress has been made since. This is despite work going full-steam ahead on completing the St David’s 2 and John Lewis department store. It seems that when big businesses are losing out on customers, the economic downturn doesn’t matter. Now we are officially out of recession, will the Olympic Sports Village be completed? It was expected that many of the athletes hoping to compete in the 2012 Olympics and 2014 Winter Olympics would train at the swimming pool and snow/ice centre but the credit crunch has hit hard and building work was slowed, mostly to a standstill.

If anyone has any news, please let me know. I’m a keen snowboarder and can’t wait to try skiing and ice skating in a brand new centre on my doorstep – the current ‘rink-in-a-tent’ doesn’t really attract me’. The White Water Rafting Centre opens in April 2010 and is part of the Sports Village, so maybe the rest will open then or just after? I do hope so.

Daily Mail employ 3 year old to write article

January 27, 2010 | Filed Under General, Humour/Odd, Media | 2 Comments

Bad grammar appals me, especially if someone spells an entirely different word. You’d think that a national newspaper would employ people who can actually write. This can’t be excused as a typo, this is basic English. Deary me, and they preach at foreigners who come over here; the majority speak/write better English than most of us, as this proves.
